Popping up at Paxton House

Updated: Jul 8, 2023

Paxton House, situated adjacent to the river Tweed, in Berwickshire and only a short distance from the Scottish, English Border.

It is not only one of the finest Palladian houses in the country, home to an outstanding collection of Chippendale furniture, Georgian costumes and a collection of art from Scotland’s National Galleries, it is also host to the Paxton Pop Up Market every Wednesday from May to September.

Housed in a large marquee in the stunning grounds between 20 – 30 artists and makers fill the space every Wednesday from 10.00 – 4.00, each bringing a selection of their paintings, prints, products and creations for sale. The event has been running for many years growing in popularity every week.

The event allows the Charitable Trust to benefit from visitors to the fair each week and helps the local artists and makers to reach a wider audience in a venue which benefits from a stunning location and is accessible to participants from both sides of the Border.

“We have a fabulous creative community here.” said Jane Harbottle, Wildlife Artist based in Lowick, Northumberland.
“It is a great opportunity for established and new practitioners to get their work seen and purchased by visitors to Paxton House.”

Some stall holders attend every week while others may book once a month so there is a fantastic variety for repeat visitors to enjoy; a mix of items, price points and product types such as artworks & paintings, photography, handmade clothing, woodwork, jewellery, hand blown glass, soft furnishings, gifts, and artisan food and drink.

Here is just a selection of some of our regular participants

Rachel Meehan, fine artist based near Coldstream is new to the event in 2023 and said

“Paxton is great venue, I am enjoying my Wednesday trips to the event and have met a number of other makers who have been very supportive and welcoming. It is great to see the Marquee being used to benefit both the creative community and Paxton House and makes a fabulous day out for art and craft lovers!”
